Puppy Accessories and The Land of Fashion Diva Puppies

I had a surreal experience this weekend: I got to see the Mecca of puppy accessories for chihuahuas and other little breed puppies. My chihuahua clothes fanatic friend took me for a weekend getaway, and her little chihuahua puppy tagged along in her chihuahua accessories (she wore a puppy collar charm and two hair bows from the Chihuahua Store!) My friend wouldn’t even tell me where we were headed, just that I had to see it and that there were going to be a lot of little dogs dressed up in puppy accessories like I would not believe.

And my god, was she ever right! Now, I live in a rather competitive chihuahua puppy clothes environment where owners are constantly trying to outdo each other with the chihuahua collars and the puppy accessories they dress up their little dogs with, but this little town my friend took me to on the other side of the bay… holy luxury dog clothes mole! First, we drove around to the one beach-side village that was the end of the line and you couldn’t drive any further, and so we had to grab our little dogs, wearing their cute dog collars and pet accessories for dogs as per my friends instructions that we had to look the part, and we hopped into a water taxi that took us about another 25 minutes around the rain forest bay to the town at the southern mouth of the bay. And stepping off the boat and onto the pier, I was amazed: I had left planet earth and entered the realm of chiwawa puppies and puppy accessories!

There were SO many little chihuahuas wearing small dog accessories I almost couldn’t count. Apparently, all the little dog-loving owners come out to this town on certain weekends to gather and hold this puppy boutique fiesta, complete with silent auctions on the latest puppy clothes and puppy accessories for their tiny chihuahuas and their yorkies and their other little doggies.

I asked some of them why they held their parties there, at this part of the bay, and they told me that because it is because the place is both so extremely beautiful and because it is remote they can be alone with their little dogs in their puppy fashion insanity without having to worry about feeling strange about having their little dogs wearing puppy accessories to the extent they had dressed up their little puppies with: to complete puppy diva-dom!

I had to agree: this tiny beach town was gorgeous: it starts on this wide stretch of beach and climbs up, into the mountain side and then descends back down the other, back down to the beach: it’s a picturesque little beach hideaway for these puppy fashion fanatics! And there were more chihuahua pups wearing puppy collars and designer puppy accessories that you could shake a stick at. Even the restaurants along the beach had these little puppy beds out in the sand, for the homeless beach puppy dogs to come in a rest when they wanted a respite from the hot sun. It was awesome.

Saying Goodbye to The Land of Puppy Accessories

I was a little sad, leaving this town of Yelapa, but all things come to an end, and I had to step back into the real world. There’s only so long when you’re surrounded by all of these little chihuahua puppy fashion divas before you start to get weirded out and feeling like they are the society and you are their pet! Like I said: this puppy world with all the puppy accessories was like something out of a bizarre fairy tale!

I picked up this beautiful puppy harness from one of the women there, selling puppy accessories, and I’m going to see if we can bring it in to the Chihuahua Shop because it’s gorgeous with these emerald green crystals that sparkle in the sun like I have never seen! Chihuahua Rescue Using Chihuahua Clothes

This is probably going to sound a little weird, but I used to work chihuahua rescue for a local dog shelter, and I would use chihuahua clothes on the rescued chihuahuas to help them get adopted a lot faster. That’s actually one of the reasons I love chihuahua fashion so much: it’s so useful in making dogs look adorable, and when it comes to chihuahua rescue, appearances are everything!

I used to invite potential chihuahua adopters to all come over at the same time, on the same day, all five people who were interested in the same little chihuahua rescue doggie, all showing up at my place or at another foster’s pad at the same time to all see the chihuahua rescue at the same time. Nine times out of ten, when the rescued chihuahua was “naked” and not wearing chihuahua clothes, the people would see the little antisocial chihuahua rescue (if he was antisocial) and they’d start talking about his personality and how it might be hard to fit him into their home and how it might be hard to train him, and this and that. Personally, I think chihuahuas are the easiest breed of dog to train, rehabilitate, correct–whatever you want to do–because they are so small and really don’t do much “damage” even when you are working on their issues and they do something you don’t like. But that’s beside the point, here. Back to chihuahua rescue and how chihuahua clothes fit in:

The Chihuahua Rescue Dogs And Their Clothes

What I noticed is that when I’d do the same exact thing–when me and my volunteer friends were out saving chihuahuas off the streets and from bad homes, and we’d come to foster them, and then line up the 4 or 5 potential adopters to come over at the same time on the same day–and I dressed the chihuahua rescues in cute chihuahua clothes, it was a completely different story.

Instead of talking about the chihuahua rescue’s problems and how it might be so hard fostering chihuahuas that are damaged and these abandoned chihuahuas, etc; they would be talking about how awesome the little chihuahua rescue was and how they want to adopt her, and they’d almost break out fighting right there in my home over who was going to adopt this little chihuahua rescue dressed up in tiny chihuahua outfits!

It was hilarious to watch the same scene play out over and over again! It got to the point for me and some of the other people fostering chihuahuas that chihuahua rescues were a piece of cake to adopt out.

Abandoned chihuahuas rescued from the side of the road yesterday and spent the night at the dog pound over night? No problem: give him to us, we’ll dress him up in chihuahua clothing from the Chihuahua Shop, take some photos of him and then post them on Dogster, and within a few days we’d have enough potential adopters to hold another one of our adopt-a-chihuahua days at one of the fosters’ homes and get another chihuahua rescued and adopted into a good home. It was like clock work!

So I definitely have a soft spot in my heart when I see a chihuahua rescue and the people who helped rescue that chihuahua, who acted as a chihuahua foster, or who adopted a chihuahua: I think it is so awesome! My own two chihuahuas are chihuahua rescues, including Namaste, the Chihuahua Shop’s mascot.

So for all of you involved in chihuahua rescue, volunteering your time, I freaking salute you: you rock, and the world needs you. My advice is to help them get adopted easier by dressing them up in chihuahua clothes from the Chihuahua Shop before taking their pictures you’ll post online for people to see, or before showing the chihuahua rescue to potential adopters in person. And that will almost always help you get a chihuahua adoption with less work! Keep up the great work and keep rescuing chihuahuas, you amazing people!

I’ve been noticing a lot of hats for dogs on chihuahuas, lately. In fact, one of my friends down here, who dresses up all her little dogs in small dog clothes, is a chihuahua hats aficionado and has more of these little dog hats than you can shake a dog’s tail at!

It’s a little strange, walking into her house and seeing all these chihuahuas coming to greet you in their little hats for doggies. It’s very cute, but when you see a little chihuahua prancing around in a little dog sombrero, and then you have a long haired chihuahua on the other side of you dressed up in a garden dress with gardening hat, and then there’s another chihuahua walking up to you with one of those pink caps for dogs on his little apple head, you start to feel a bit like you’re in the chihuahua clothes twilight zone! And to be honest, that’s pretty much what my friend’s house is like: one big hats for dogs, chihuahua dog clothing fantasy world. I joke that she should start charging admission for the experience of walking through her home 🙂

Why The Obsession With Hats For Dogs?

visit the chihuahua clothes shop She explains that she’s always had a passion for hats and that when she brought her dogs in to her home that, well, it was only natural for her to find some doggy hats for them to wear. She even makes a few of the hats for chihuahua dogs that her own pups run around in, and I was blown away at how much detail she goes into when making a chihuahua puppy hat: she says it takes her upwards of 12 hours to sew and decorate one of these small hats for dogs!

I asked her to make me a few chihuahua caps and an ornate chihuahua hat for Namaste, my chihuahua, so we’ll have to see: soon I might be the next freak show walking down the street with my chihuahuas wearing chihuahua cowboy hats or something equally bizarre, haha!

When it comes to the designer dog carriers out there for chihuahuas and the other little breeds of dogs, there are really nice ones that have just been released and we’ve been bringing them into the Chihuahua Shop over the past week! It’s been super exciting, watching these luxury dog carriers come in, because now, not only can you doll up your chihuahua in the latest chihuahua clothes, you can carry her around in style in her very own designer doggie carrier fir for a fashion queen!

I see a lot of these pet carrier hand bags on the bus, actually! I get on the bus to head into Puerto Vallarta down here, and I just bring my chihuahua on by hand, carrying her. But I see so many other people using a chihuahua carrier to transport their dogs with them. I guess some people figure that if you’re going to carry your dog with you wherever you go, you may as well do it in chihuahua style!

And that’s exactly what these designer pet carrier bags are: they are like the airplane of transportation for dogs. You take your chihuahua with you in a designer dog carrier, and it’s like giving her the royal spa treatment. These bags provide your dog with a nice comfy place to rest while you take her somewhere, and they let you sneak your dog into places you would otherwise not be allowed to bring your chihuahua or other breed of toy dog. Small Dog Harness for A Chihuahua

I don’t know if you’re seeing the same thing, but I’m noticing a lot of chihuahuas and other little dogs wearing a small dog harness on their walks these days, instead of the older style chihuahua dog collars I used to see everywhere. I’m lucky in that I live around a lot of dogs and their owners, and so I see a great deal of chihuahua clothes and chihuahua harness dresses, and the whole spectrum of dog walking tools.

With the smaller dogs right now, I’m definitely seeing a movement toward using the stylish chihuahua harnesses, with little dog owners. The little dog harness allows you to not only take you dog for a walk, but to do so while having your chihuahua dressed up in one of the fashion dog harnesses that keep your little pup looking cool and stylish while also giving you easy access to a harness loop to leash her up because it’s built in to the small dog’s harness dress, coat, shirt, or hoodie. So these harnesses are fashionable and functional.

Jogging along the walking trails here in town, some of the small dog harnesses I’ve seen are darn cute. They have these toy dog harness vests that dress up your little dog as though he’s on his way to a board meeting or something more serious like that. And on other little dogs, I’ve seen these chihuahua harnesses, also in vest form, that make your little dog look like he’s on his way to a psychedelic disco party, with these splotchy color blotches in an almost tie-dye pattern.

And still, many other continue to walk their little dogs in their chihuahua clothes with their chihuahua collars and leashes. Not everyone is big on small dog harnesses, after all. Some believe that it’s much easier to control your dog when you’re leading your dog around with a leash attached to the neck, for training purposes. And others like knowing that by using a little doggie harness, they’re not putting any strain on their chihuahua’s neck.
