News on the latest chihuahua accessories and fashionable small dog clothes!
Author: Mikey Davis
A few years ago, I had never even seen a chihuahua. Now I own and foster my own, and I've become such a lover of chihuahua clothes that I've opened my own Chihuahua Shop! It's been a crazy journey, but I love dogs, and chihuahuas are my calling :)
I’ve been a chihuahua owner and a follower of the different dog fashions for a while now. At the Chihuahua Store, we stock designer chihuahua clothes of many different types, and while I thought I knew my chihuahua fashion trends, my friend from Paris puts me to shame in this department.
She grew up in France and spent part of her life living in London, living the dog fashion UK scene for a while, and having been to many of the European dog fashion show events in the early 2000s, she sure knows her chihuahua clothing!
Walking through her home is a little bit like walking through a chihuahua fashion wonderland, with little dogs of different breeds coming greet you in every room, in their cute little doggie fashions and their little bling chihuahua accessories. My Parisian friend has a particular focus with her small dogs and it’s to make them each into a high fashion dog that has his/her own unique character.
“The trick,” she says, “is to know your dog intimately. From there, it’s only a matter of finding the right fashion for the dog.” It sounds simple, but this girl lives and breathes fashion for chihuahuas and her other toy breed dogs, and she really knows how to make it look easy.
She tells me her favorite dog fashion accessories from the Chihuahua Shop are the customizable fashion dog collars, with the Diamante crystal lettering; and the fashion dog carriers we have, that look like designer hand bags but that are actually designer dog carriers for your fashionably late chihuahua. She pairs these two to create the double effect of a fashionable dog owner walking the street, and a to-die-for fashionable dog that emerges from the bag when she sets it down and it’s time for her chihuahua to walk!
I’ve asked my friend if she’d ever consider organizing a dog fashion show to raise money for the local rescue group here in Sayulita, because she knows her pet fashion so well, and she said she would love to, so I’m super stoked about it! Not only am I going to be treated to a chihuahua dog fashion spectacle, some money will be raised to help the local chihuahua rescue and dog shelter her in the Riviera Nayarit. So fingers are crossed for that!
If you’d like to see some of the best fashion dog clothes for chihuahuas I’ve ever seen, head over to the Chihuahua Shop and check out their dog fashions. They’re super adorable, reasonably priced, and very high quality, so go check them out now, and I’ll be back here again soon! -Mikey
It’s been fun going through the new dog harnesses for small dogs showing up at the chihuahua clothes shop: we just got in these new harness vests for little dogs that work great as the body harness for dogs you’re taking on their walks, but that are also fashionable and look cool, and not like a tangled web of neon nylon like some of the harnesses of little dog’s I’ve seen. Along with the chihuahua clothes and small dog dresses we carry that have the harness loop built right into the outfit, these harnesses are at the top in terms of style for your little dog!
Actually just a few days ago, I had the chance to see a pair of gorgeous dachshund harnesses on these two little dogs at the vet in the marina area here in Puerto Vallarta. I had to take Namaste the chihuahua in to get her eyes checked because they’ve been very red over the past few days and I just wanted to be safe. But these two dachshunds came in leashed up on their designer dog harnesses for smaller doggies, and they looked so stylish! I’ve seen a lot of little chihuahuas and yorkies and shi tzus and other small dogs on the marina walk here in PV that have a dog harness for small dog pets on them, but few have ever compared with these super stylin’ little silvery emerald green vest harnesses these dachshunds were wearing at the vet’s office!
I notice some owners talking about buying a dog harness to stop pulling on their little dog, or rather, to get their little dog to stop pulling on the walk. As someone who has owned a few dogs in his time and worked with literally thousands of rescue dogs at shelters around the world, I’ve never seen a dog harness make your dog stop pulling you, in fact it’s usually the opposite: it creates a pulling/tracking reaction in your dog a lot of the time, which is why search and rescue workers use them on their dogs all the time. But for the stylish small dog owner, I am definitely for the dog harness UK style trend of the dog harness pink lace corset small dog harness vests that seem to be all over the place in the gay district of Puerto Vallarta right now! I’m not saying it’s going to make your walk any easier, but it sure will make your little dog stand out, and if you do it right, your little chihuahueƱo could be the next local fashion icon where you live and frequent!
Around the marina sidewalk surrounding the Pacific Ocean here in Vallarta, I get to see a lot of little pups sporting their harnesses for small dogs on their walks with their energetic owners. They come breezing by, running along the red brick roads and up, onto the raised pebble sidewalks, under the white mast tarps and into the long stretches of marina walkway along the bay, waves lapping up against the shore rocks along the beach, people and their pet dogs out and enjoying the sun in their stylish small dog attire, and for some owners, the harness for dogs allows them to enjoy these moments more because they can relax with the though that their little dog’s neck isn’t going to be hurt by any sudden jerks or movements on the leash. Personally, I’m of the opinion that when it comes to the debate between collars and dog leads and harnesses, the collar-lead system works better. In fact, I learned a simple trick a little while ago for how to use a leash to walk your dog, without any collar, that mimics the natural tightening of a choke collar, only without the heavy metal piece of ugly jewelry around your dog’s neck! For me, I find this works best with how I walk my chihuahuas and other smaller foster dogs.
Anyway, I’m getting a little off track here: I think the nylon dog harnesses for little dogs are great, I think the leather harness for dogs and those other walking harness for dogs contraptions are great–anything that gets you out of the house and into nature with your dog, walking together, is a good thing if you ask me. Personally, I’m more into the fashionable harness for small dog styles that you can find today, but that’s coming from a guy who’s completely immersed in the world of clothing for chihuahuas, so I’m definitely fashion biased! But overall, you have to go have to choose a small harness for your little dog that YOU like.
Dog harnesses for small dogs: where to look for them:
We carry a very quality selection of chihuahua harnesses and fashionable dog harnesses for small dogs at the Chihuahua Shop, and I invite you to check them out. Our competitor GW Little also has a good but different selection of these little dog harnesses, and so I would check those out too, were I in the position of searching for a good harness for my chihuahua right now. I hope that helps, and good luck in your search!
UPDATE: It’s come to attention that some chihuahua owners aren’t just looking for walking harnesses, but also car harnesses for strapping your little dog into the seat when you’re driving with her! For these car harnesses for small dogs, I’d first read up about them here:

In the future, I’ll have to write a post about these, myself. Let me know your thoughts below, in the comments box: do car harnesses for little dogs interest you, in addition to the walking dog harnesses for small dogs I’ve discussed in this article?
Seeing some of the new luxury small dog accessories at the Chihuahua Clothes Store reminds me of of an experience I had last year as a very excited small dog owner who had the chance to shop Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive for Chihuahua clothing and accessories for my little dogs back at home. I was on my way to Thailand for a few months and had a day-long stopover in L.A., so I raced out of the airport, into a cab, and my friend an I hauled ass over to the small dog fashion mecca of Beverly Hills for an afternoon!
The whole small dog accessory shopping experience reminded me a lot of Chloe’s experience at the start of Beverly Hills Chihuahua, in all seriousness. There were a lot of designer collars for small dogs and little dog booties and these customizable rhinestone dog collars in the windows of all these little pet fashion boutiques along the rich streets of The Hills. I’d seen dog accessories before when shopping for my chihuahua dogs and my other smaller foster dogs, but this was a pet shopping experience on steroids.
There were puppy accessories costing in excess of $1000 a pop, for a diamond studded chihuahua collar charm. There were puppy supplies from luxury labels like Gucci and Chanel, their luxury small dog carrier handbags that would open up on the end to let your little dog in and out. It’s insane what you can find in the way of little dog accessories when you’re in this part of Los Angeles!
There were even small dog clothes woven with cashmere–I have never seen chihuahua outfits so nice. Seeing the rest of the accessories for dogs, the little bling chihuahua accessories and the custom dog collars like we actually carry here at the Chihuahua Shop–it almost made me dizzy, thinking of all the fashion possibilities for dressing up my little doggies back at home!
If you are looking them, go and check out the Chihuahua Clothes store to find great small dog accessories like these. Our chihuahua collar charms are extremely popular right now and so, if you’ve got a little dog you like to dress up and spoil with small dog clothes and accessories, check them out here, and you won’t have have to make the trip to Beverly Hills to find some of the very best chihuahua clothes and jewelry on the planet!
Pug clothes have got to be the truest sign that the universe has both a sense of humor and an adorable sense of fashion. That’s probably why we added some of the best pug clothing I’ve seen anywhere to the store, along with the fact that these clothes for small dogs are among my absolute favorite pet fashion outfits of all time! As someone who works in the pet fashion industry, I’ve seen a log of cool, funky accessories for dogs and chihuahua clothes that can make any teacup chihuahua look so cute it could kill you, but clothes for pugs usually take it even further because they’re combining with those fantastic wrinkles, and render your little dog an adorable rump of wrinkled fashion dog fun! Haha!
A have a friend who is literally obsessed with clothes for pugs. She has four pugs she calls her own, and she’s given them each a style of their own. Each pug dog has its own wardrobe with specific clothes he or she wears, and, according to my friend, they each have their own preferences as to which do clothes they like to wear. I almost died laughing the first time my friend related this news to me, but then I stepped into her apartment for the first time and I simply couldn’t laugh: I was too blown away by the portal I had just walked through when I entered through the door and into this world of PUG. It was overwhelming.
Two of the little wrinkled beasts were wearing designer pug dog jumpers, looking ready to run a marathon at any instant! Another one was wearing is pug fashion outfit that looked like pug clothing from the Lady Gaga line or something outlandish and otherworldly: it had these crystal pieces jetting off of the back and shoulders of the dog, making it look like Gaga’s “Poker Face” costume, only adapted into a little pug pet fashion!
And the last pug had on this funky neon pink dog vest underneath two layers of pug coats. I asked my friend why on earth her pug was wearing so many layers when it’s well known that pugs can overheat so easily. Apparently, this guy loves to hang out with his owner in the air conditioned bedroom in her apartment, but he freezes and starts shivering without the clothes. Hence the pug with the nearly onion-layered pet apparel!
I’m really not sure how I collected so many friends that are all into small dog clothes to this degree. Believe me: there are many, and it almost freaks me out when I think about it… how exactly did this happen?? It must be that secret thing and “the law of attraction,” lol.
Well what is certain is that there are now some of the most attractive pug clothes I have ever seen at the little online doggie boutique we call the Chihuahua Clothes shop (mainly because our mascot is a chihuahua, but the clothing we carry comes in sizes for all breeds of smaller dogs), and if you’re looking for pug shirts or pants or a little costume for your pug, you should definitely go check it out now. Go check it out, and I’ll be back here again soon with the latest crazy story from life lived inside the small dog clothing world! Speak soon -Mikey
I always get excited when a small dog owner strikes up a conversation with me about designer dog coats because not only do we have some killer ones at the Chihuahua Clothes Shop, I had the chance to take stroll through what some would consider the American capital of smaller dogs: New York City. Believe it or not, there are a staggering number of little dogs in that city, and I was able to spend some time there with my chihuahua and two other small dogs I was fostering at the time, this past winter and soak up the sight of all the little dogs walking by in their custom dog coats and their fashionable personalized dog coats from the boutique dog stores in Manhattan. And holy cow, what an eye-opener it was!
I have new seen so many leather dog coats in my life. Central Park was like the luxury dog coats mecca, with mini schnauzers and french bulldogs sporting the latest in pet fashion, and what seemed like armies of chihuahuas and yorkies I passed by that wore designer coats for dogs. I thought L.A. was a hotbed of little dog apparel, but New York City put the city of angels to shame, at least on this trip!
I witnessed some of the most elaborate winter coats for dogs I’ve ever seen. And some of the custom whippet dog coats I saw were absolutely gorgeous in their design and their build quality. I also got to see a whole lot of pink dog coats for a team of Maltese dogs in training outside of a pet training facility in lower Manhattan, and, of course, when you visit one of those, you are going to see a pile of small doggie coats on the back of nearly every smaller dog pulling up in passenger’s seat of his owners car in the winter time, being dropped off for his day’s dog training class. It was almost unbelievable, the sheer volume of dogs there were that were outfitted in the latest designer dog fashion. This is a good city to be a dog!
I have a real soft spot in my heart for little dogs, and so I’m happy to stock some of the best small dog coats I’ve ever seen here at the Chihuahua Shop. They come in sizes for nearly every breed in dog, despite the store’s name, and like I said, they really are some of the best dog coats I’ve ever seen.
If you’re really into the designer fashion dog coats from the super upscale brands like Gucci, Prada, Versace, etc… that’s a little beyond the price range I focus on for the store, but you can check them out over at GW Little if that’s what you’re looking for, for your little dog. They have some gorgeous designer dog jackets and designer dog coats and I highly recommend them if you’re looking for quality designer dog coats, so check them out. The chihuahua coats you’ll find at the Chihuahua Shop are very high quality, and so be sure to check those out as well in your search. I hope this has been helpful, and make sure you check back very, very soon! -Mikey
