Designer Dog Accessories For Chihuahuas and Smaller Dogs

Designer dog accessories have become so popular in the pet world with dog owners and their little dogs because they let you create that unique look for your little dog that brings out his personality on the outside, so that everyone–even people who don’t know your little dog–can instantly see who your dog is. Chihuahuas have their designer chihuahua accessories, yorkies have their uniquely Yorkshire Terrior-esque luxury dog accessories to bring out that character they have so much of but that’s typically buried deep within, and puppies of all breeds have their smaller sized designer puppy clothes!

But of course these pet accessories from the designer labels aren’t just for clothing: you’ll see designer dog carriers and other useful dog supplies in the online pet boutiques like The Chihuahua Clothes Shop or GW Little, in addition to the trendy dog clothing at the upper end of the pet fashion scale.

Down here in Mexico, it’s not exactly easy to find designer pet accessories from the local pet stores. If I ever need something that I absolutely can’t buy from an online store–and that’s rare–I’ll ask a friend of mine who travels to both the US and the UK frequently bring me back the luxury chihuahua accessories for my little chihuahua doggies I want, or the designer dog collar I couldn’t order at whatever store online because of their shipping policy. It’s really a pain when you can’t find that designer dog product at the online boutique you like because they have a crappy shipping policy. I know it’s not easy to ship things around the planet with all the extra fees business owners have to find a way to negotiate, but I still think we small dog clothing and accessory stores can do better.

That’s one of the reasons The Chihuahua Clothes Shop has been working very hard on its customer service. The whole reason I started my little designer dog clothes store was because I was fed up with the lousy service of other dog stores I had been working with, and I decided “that’s it! It’s time for a quality designer dog apparel and chihuahua dog accessory store to exist, that doesn’t screw its customers over and that provides nothing but excellent service!”

And that was it. With the help of UrbanPup, I set up the chihuahua shop in a relatively short amount of time as far as businesses are concerned, and now people from all around the world can buy that designer dog leash (we have new ones at the shop, now!), that designer dog apparel for smaller dogs, and those beautiful chihuahua clothes that I’ve seen so many chihuahuas and their owners enjoying (thank you for all the pictures!)

Dog Cloths: Keeping Little Dogs Safe From The Sun

It’s always fun when new dog cloths come in to the Chihuahua Clothes Shop and I get to offer a new line of small dog clothes to chihuahua owners and people with other breeds of small dogs! This week has been a blast for me because with the arrival of the new customizable dog T-shirts, anyone can make their own personalized dog clothing for their precious little dog and have some fun thinking about what message they want their dog to walk around with!

I’ve had a few people emailing in, telling me they love their doggie’s new chihuahua clothes for dogs with their personalized message on it. They send me the photos and it’s always so cool to see happy customers!

Over here on the beach in Mexico, I get to see a number of small dogs wearing doggie cloths out surfing almost every day. Surfers take their little dogs with them out on the board, paddling out to the waves, and then they ride in on the waves with their little dog on top of the surf board! It’s awesome:

A lot of these beach dogs who spend a lot of time in the water wear white doggie clothing, with their owner wanting to protect their pet’s skin from the intense UV rays from the sun. It’s a smart move because a lot of small dogs like chihuahuas have these hairless parts of their bodies, like around their ears, nose, and their little tummies, where the sun can really blast away and burn them if you aren’t careful. So just covering your little dog up with a little dog fashion can be very practical in the summer sun, it you’re talking about dog clothing that’s light and breathes well.

Normally, pet outfits are the subject of jokes among non-dog owners who don’t get it and know what it’s about. But when it comes to my dogs’ health, I really don’t have any problem dressing up my chihuahua pups in doggy cloths, and even my little foster poodles in chihuahua outfits. When it comes to their health, I don’t care what anybody thinks: I’m going to take care of my dogs.

But obviously most people do care about how their dogs look when dressed in their tiny pet cloths, and so I definitely do make an effort to bring only the best small dog clothes to the Chihuahua Store. I know that, at least among the dog lovers I spend time around, people who are into dog clothes are usually more fashion and style oriented people, who care about the appearance of their dogs and want them to look as cool and hip as possible in their little dog pants and dog shirts and dog sweaters that they wear. I’m the same way, of course, so I put a lot of effort into deciding what clothes come in to the store, and which small dog garments will stay in the other stores online.

Costumes for Small Dogs: A Different Style For Each Small Dog Breed

Of all the small dog clothing you can find for chihuahuas and shih tzu and yorkies and Maltese, costumes for small dogs have got to be the most fun. Browsing around the GW Little store lately, I’ve been indulging in a little dog shopping fun for my pet pups over here, picking out a few chihuahua clothes for their upcoming birthdays and a few small dog costumes for when I need a laugh and I decide to dress all my little doggies up in costumes for a day, just to create a strange and bizarre atmosphere in my house and have some fun to break up the monotony of the day.

Something a little weird I’ve been noticing about the different breeds of small dogs is that each one has it’s own dog costume “niche”–if you will–that works best for it. The chihuahuas have a few types of chihuahua costumes that work best with their short hair and huge bulging eyes; the yorkies have their costumes for yorkies that go with their tiny toy dog, formal, quaint look; the shih tzu have their onw little shih tzu costumes that work best on them, with their super long hair and that whole ancient Chinese thing going on; and the Maltese have a certain type of Maltese costume that works best with their adorable, cute little white faces. If you pay attention and you see a lot of little dogs wearing costumes for teacup dogs over and over again, I think you’ll notice this, that each breed has its own style.

More than any other type of small dog clothing costumes my chihuahua owner friends talk about when they get together, it’s the funny dog costumes that tend to dominate our conversations about chihuahua clothing and pet costumes. Smaller dog costumes that have that funny twist are just more entertaining and hilarious than the bland puppy costume, or the little doggie costumes that make an honest effort at being serious and respectable. When you dress up your little dog as a bumble bee or as crocodile prey in the middle of being devoured, or as a lion with a costume that has a huge main of lion hair that frames your chihuahuas head, you take your little dog’s cuteness and you add a humor element to it that just pushes everything over the top with dog owners and you make it almost impossible to look at your small dog without busting a gut and laughing your ass off! It’s great!

Costumes for small dogs are usually not that expensive if you shop at the top pet stores online. My favorite place to go right now when I want to pick out a new outfit is the costume for small dog section of GW Little’s online small dog boutique. Fleece Dog Coats: Take Your Small Dogs With You To Cooler Climates

I find that for most small dog owners, fleece dog coats aren’t really an option. The smaller breeds of dogs cool off much faster and more easily than the bigger breeds of dogs, and so we pick up little fleece doggie coats and sweaters for our chihuahuas and our yorkies, our Maltese and our shih tzu. In particular, I’ve found that fleece coats for dogs are particularly effective at keeping little dogs warm. I used to hike around in the mountains of Canada with Namaste and few other chihuahuas I was fostering at the time. This would have normally been impossible: it would have been way too cold for the chihuahuas to be able to handle. But wearing their little chihuahua dog fleeces, they stayed toasty warm with that extra layer of fur to protect them from the crisp air and insulate them a bit and lock in their body heat. Their little fido fleece coats worked great for them!

Initially, I actually bought their fleece dog jacket coats at a local pet store. This was long before I knew anything about the elaborate, extensive collection of boutique small dog clothing stores online that we have today, but there was a decent selection of fleeces for little dogs at the big pet stores where I was at the time. Actually, it was kind of nice to be able to take my dogs in with me, into the store, and try the clothes out right there before I purchased them. If there’s one thing I don’t like about shopping online, it’s that you can’t really do that.

Browsing the isles of the local dog store, there were all these fleece dog jacket pattern coats with their cute, clever little messages on the back and their fashionable cuts and designs. Typically, when I shop for chihuahua coats at the local brick and mortar stores, the selection is rather limited, but when it comes fleece dog sweater and fleece dog vest outfits for little dogs, there’s a quite a bit of variety–more than any other type of dog clothing you’ll find at the bigger, mainstream dog and pet stores in the big cities. So you can find some quality warm dog clothing at these stores, which is nice for a change.

That said, I still very much favor the online pet shopping experience today when I’m looking for my small dog clothing. Fleece jackets for dogs and fleece jumpers, for when you want to exercise with your dog and you want to run with him outdoors when it’s cool out or even downright cold, really are a must when you have smaller dogs like chihuahuas or yorkies, and there are some very good stores online today like the Chihuahua Shop that sell quality pet fleece outfits at reasonable prices. And the selection in these online little dog clothing stores far exceeds that of the local shops where you live; I can almost guarantee it.

If you can find 10 different brands of a certain type of polar fleece dog coat for you chihuahua, you’re almost certain to be able to find 100 brands of it online. On the internet, you have the advantage of being able to shop the toy dog coat boutiques that exist all around the world, and so your selection expands massively. This is why today, whenever I have a friend from back up in Canada or over in the UK asking me for advice on where they can find a dog fleece jacket for their little Maltese pup or their shivering chihuahuas, I tell them to browse the small pet clothing stores online, first, to find what they’re looking for to help their small dogs.

Like I said, you can find quality warm dog coats at the local pet stores, but the selection is limited compared to what you’ll find at the online dog clothes stores selection, with their massive wardrobe collections of small dog coats for the winter time, autumn, and other cool times and situations you’ll find yourself in as you travel along the strange, winding path of life with your little dogs! Dog Accessories For Completing Your Dog’s Look

I’ve been getting excited, watching the new dog accessories come in to the Chihuahua Clothes Store lately! I always get a little bit of a high whenever we get new chihuahua product, and it was no exception this week with the new dog apparel. I’ve been watching some of my favorite other stores online like GW Little bring in new dog beds and dog backpacks and dog toys this week, but I’ve been focusing on dog clothes for chihuahuas and other small dogs, and I’m really liking what I see at the Chihuahua Shop with the stylish dog clothing on the shelves right now.

Chihuahua clothes have been a passion of mine since I last moved to a new country, met someone, and became the joint owner of two chihuahuas. The clothes are fun, they’re cute, they help my dogs out by keeping them warm. But it’s fun when you get to take your dog’s appearance to the next level with dog accessories like jewelry and collar charms. It can really be a lot of fun!

And then, when you top off the whole small dog experience with custom luxury dog bowls for the house and doggy leashes and dog harnesses for when you walk your little chihuahua each day, it immerses you and your little dog even more in the world of chihuahua fashion, and it can be a blast. I love going into that world of the luxury pet owner (even without spending a fortune on doggy accessories–just with a few choice items I like) and sharing that whole fantasy experience with my dogs. It’s a very enjoyable thing for me, if I’m honest 😉

I like walking through the house, looking through the glass door and seeing my chihuahuas’ little dog houses, and I like carrying them in their little dog carriers when I can’t take them with me on a leash when I’m moving through buildings, downtown during the day. Sometimes it’s one of those days when I am going to take my chihuahuas in their chihuahua clothes and wearing their dog accessories with me, everywhere I go, and I need these things. Sometimes it’s just one of those days.
