Trendy Dog Collars For Your Fashionable Doggy

I’ve been looking at these trendy dog collars at the Chihuahua Clothes Shop lately, and I have to admit: I’m impressed. Normally, I’m not really big on flashy, frilly-laced jewelry for my dog. In fact, up until just a few years ago, I thought the whole notion of chihuahua clothing was a complete joke. I thought it was ridiculous, dressing dogs in little outfits made by us. Well I got two small dogs of my own–two chihuahuas–and that all changed in a hurry! It wasn’t even two weeks before my little doggies were running around in their K-9 haute couture chihuahua fashion outfits and their other adorable dog clothes for chihuahuas. A few weeks later, I had to splurge on personalized dog collars for them and complete the look for them, for all-out chihuahua effect. It was a little overboard for me, but the chihuahuas certainly looked the part!

Fashionable dog collars have always been a favorite dog accessory of mine. They way I see it, your dog’s collar is her most important piece of fashion. She wears it all the time, it holds her license and ID tags, and it’s like her jewelry. I’ve notice my little dogs get quite attached to their chihuahua collars: when I remove them, they lean forward and sniff it and look up at me and then at the collar, expectantly, just wanting and waiting for me to put it back on around their neck.

So I’ve been working on finding the best rhinestone collars in the online dog boutiques lately. I’ve seen some great lather strap dog collars that do the customizable crystal print letters like we do here at the Chihuahua Shop, but for the most part, I like what we have a lot more than the other styles I’m seeing out in most other stores.

I’ve always been a fan of those polka dot collars you can find at the local pet stores, that you can find in the section with all the nylon dog collars. I usually go with nylon for my foster dogs, simply because it’s a bit cheaper (and when you foster as many rescues as I do, that becomes an issue, let me tell you!) But when you got to step it up a little and you want to move into more of the designer dog collars for your chihuahua, then you’re almost always going to be dealing with trendy dog collars that have leather straps.

The leather dog collars tend to last longer than the nylon ones, and this isn’t probably going to be your biggest concern when you’re a chihuahua owner because even when they roughhouse, they’re not exactly bringing down the house with the amount of damage they can do to the house or to their chihuahua clothing, but if you’ve got a pug or a dachshund or a bit bigger dog than a chihuahua, you’ll appreciate the leather straps on their collars.

In addition to the collars, you can find designer dog leads and chihuahua harnesses that match in style and are usually sold together, which is perfect if you’re the fashion-tastic type who loves having things coordinated with your chihuahua accessories and dog apparel!

But to wrap this up, I have to say that right now, I’m most excited about the new Wizard of Oz Swarovski dog collars (pictured at the top of this article) that the Chihuahua Clothes Store just brought in! Even the whole story of how these trendy dog collars came to be is interesting, and I recommend you go check them out and see them for yourself and learn about them, here; they’re pretty freaking cool. So check those dog collars out, check out the Chihuahua Shop, and I’ll be back again very soon. -Mikey

Doggie Coat: The Savior of Little Dogs

As the proud owner of two awesome chihuahuas, I am definitely a fan of the doggie coat. I didn’t realize this when I first came to be a chihuahua owner, but these little buggers cool off rather easily and can spend a lot of their time shaking like mad if you don’t wrap them up in clothes for chihuahaus of some kind. So my default, go-to outfit for Namaste and her foster brother Custy right now are their warm doggie coats: I dress them up before we go to bed, and this way they stay warm and comfortable during the night.

Along with this, I watch Cesar Millan’s program regularly and I take his advice on treating your little dog like any other dog and taking him for a good walk every day. Well right now, I’m living in a part of the planet where the floodgates to the heavens open up frequently and it pours like I have never seen before, and so I’ve also recently become fond of the rainwear dog coat for my chihuahuas, that help them stay dry for the most part on their walks with me in the rain! My little dogs start shaking almost immediately upon getting even just a few drops of water on their fur coats, so it’s important to me to keep them dry so they can actually enjoy their walks and not feel like they’re on a torture trek!

Aside from these doggie coats, I’ve pretty much tried them all. Before living here in Mexico, we were up in Canada for the winter, and so we had the entire doggy wardrobe going on. Each of my little dogs had a dog sweater and they had the dog bomber jackets and fleece doggie coats. I even had a few velvet dog coats and suede doggie jackets for my precious Namaste, because I know how much she loves her little doggie fashion! I’m also huge fan of those cool little leather doggie jackets that make your dog look like a little canine fashion diva version of Marlon Brando in Streetcar Named Desire, and I’m also a big fan of the plaid dog jackets you can find that have those funky, classic chihuahua clothes patterns on them!

Of course, when we were indoors, the dogs had to be dressed up to the K-9s in their doggie couture, so I had them dolled up in their dog vests and, when travelling, I’d have the chiwawas sporting their little black faux mink coat! Canada for them really was like one big photo opp/fashion-fest, for these chihuahua dogs!

Aside from the above jackets and outfits, I also bought my chihuahuas a quilted doggie coat to keep them warm, and there were a few other chihuahua coats I just can’t remember–there were so many!

But today, it’s definitely the doggie rain coats that are saving the day. The Dog Whisperer says we should walk, and I agree, and so we do, and if it weren’t for the dog rain coat, my chihuahuas would be completely freezing their little buts off, so it would be hard for me to part with those right now!

Anyway, if you’re searching for a good doggie coat, go check them out there at the Chihuahua Store, and I’ll speak to you again soon with the latest scoop from the fashionable world of chihuahua clothes and small dog clothing! -Mikey

The Chihuahua Sweater: Chihuahua Clothing You Can’t Really Argue About

The chihuahua sweater is by far one of the most functional and practical pieces of dog clothing you can get for your little chi. I’ve stocked a number of very high quality sweaters at the Chihuahua Clothes Shop, here, that are perfect for keeping little dogs warm. We also have chihuahua hoodies you can customize with a print type message of your choosing, which is very cool if you have a chihuahua dog who has got some serious attitude and you want to promote that to the world a bit in a fashionable way!

Sweaters and jackets for chihuahuas come in both the hand knit sweaters that have those adorable knitted dog sweater patterns woven in, as well as the thinner, hoody-style small dog sweaters for chihuahuas and other little doggies, both of which you can find at the Chihuahua Store and quite a few other online boutiques, GW Little for example. When you pair these with a dog coat for your little chiwawa pup, you’re ensuring your small dog stays warm and comfortable with his small dog clothes when living in places and spaces that cool off and get cold at times (or all the time, if you’re like me and you’ve lived in Canada during the winter!)

If you live in a warm climate but you hang out with your dog in air conditioned rooms a lot of the time, you might also want to think about investing in a little dog sweater or a dog hoodie for your chihuahua, to keep him warm. Chihuahuas and other little dogs tend to cool off and shed their body heat rather quickly thanks to a high metabolism, and they can get very cold and shake like crazy when spending a lot of time in an air con room with their owners, as a result.

Small Dog Coats, And The Chihuahua Wearing Them On The Beach!

We stock some great small dog coats at the Chihuahua Shop, here, but my I recently got a lesson in these warm dog coats from my neighbor here in town. She has this chihuahua I always see dressed up in a chihuahua coat of some sort–no matter where I see him. Well I was out yesterday, and I was a little bit shocked to see my friend with her little guy out on the beach, with him wearing one of his fashion dog coats! I should say that I was shocked because of how hot it is down here when you’re out on the beach and it’s the middle of the day: it’s scorching. But there he was, this little dude, out in the sand, running and ripping around from sand castle to beach chair to owner to the other chihuahuas out on the beach at the time. I thought it was insanity.

I asked my friend what she was thinking, dressing her dog up in chihuahua clothes–a dog coat no less–during the middle of the day and when out on the beach. I mean, I know my chihuahuas can cool down and get cold sometimes and need their chihuahua coats at times, but this is not usually one of those times!

As it turns out, her little “Paco” is cold almost all the time and needs some sort of dog clothing on him, almost all the time, just so he can stay warm. Apparently he’s not sick or anything, but he’s just always been like that, in perpetual need of his dog coats for smaller dogs. The poor little bugger; I can’t imagine being out on the sun-drenched beach with my winter parka on, but I guess it’s different for this little chihuahua dog and it’s actually more enjoyable for him this way. Strange, but true.

All around town in Sayulita lately, I’ve actually been seeing a number of chihuahuas out with their small doggie coats on, lately. Their owners are buying them the all weather dog coats for the rainy season we’re in the middle of, down here. And I’m also spotting a lot of new high visibility dog coats on some of the bigger dogs around town, with owners making sure their pooches are bright and easy to see when it really starts pouring rain and it’s coming down like cats and you know what! In this town, the sidewalks weren’t exactly built with walking pedestrians in mind and you basically have to walk along the side of the road (very typical in Mexico) if you want to go anywhere on foot or take your dog for a spin and give him his exercise.

I’ve also been looking at some of the fleece dog coats and the small dog vests I’ve seen over at GW Little lately, because they are pretty nice and I’ve been wanting to bring a few models of them over to the Chihuahua Clothes Store, here. I’d say if you’re seeking quality small dog coats, visit the shop there, or head over to GW and check out there stock because it is usually pretty good. Go do that, and I’ll speak to you again very soon! -Mikey

The Coats For Small Dogs at Pet Fashion Week in New York City

Last year during Pet Fashion Week in New York City, I had the chance to sit in on the dog fashion runway shows, and I was able to catch a glimpse of the coats for small dogs that were coming down the line in this pet fashion industry and that we now carry here at the Chihuahua Clothes Shop. Chihuahua coats and jackets for other smaller dogs have been one of our best sellers at the shop, and I have to say that part of that is due to the hard work the designers put into their dog clothing work.

On the runways of Pet Fashion Week, I saw the whole gamut of doggy coats for little dogs: there were dog coats for winter and designer dog coats from luxury brands like Gucci, Chanel, and Louis Vuitton. There were cool dog coats for small dogs like chihuahuas and yorkies and Maltese puppies. There were puppy coats of every style and fashion and cut and size you could imagine, being sold at the doggie fashion vendor stands outside the runway rooms. Small dog coats were very well represented at the show!

As you’d expect, it was the coats for toy breeds that claimed most of the attention, as it’s not so much specataters’ fascination with the doggie clothes as much as the little dogs themselves that won them the lion’s share of people’s conversations. The coats for chihuahuas and the other chihuahua clothes were a very hot topic among the small dog owners, with people snapping photos and shooting video to capture the future of dog coat fashion coming down the pipe in the pet industry.

The event was a blast to attend. Not only did I get to be a part of something that raises a lot of awareness for dogs and their rights here in western culture, which is very, very cool; but I got to see all the new accessories for small dogs on their way to the online dog boutiques and specialty pet stores this year. If you ever have the chance to go, I highly recommend it!
