Small Dog Coats, And The Chihuahua Wearing Them On The Beach!

We stock some great small dog coats at the Chihuahua Shop, here, but my I recently got a lesson in these warm dog coats from my neighbor here in town. She has this chihuahua I always see dressed up in a chihuahua coat of some sort–no matter where I see him. Well I was out yesterday, and I was a little bit shocked to see my friend with her little guy out on the beach, with him wearing one of his fashion dog coats! I should say that I was shocked because of how hot it is down here when you’re out on the beach and it’s the middle of the day: it’s scorching. But there he was, this little dude, out in the sand, running and ripping around from sand castle to beach chair to owner to the other chihuahuas out on the beach at the time. I thought it was insanity.

I asked my friend what she was thinking, dressing her dog up in chihuahua clothes–a dog coat no less–during the middle of the day and when out on the beach. I mean, I know my chihuahuas can cool down and get cold sometimes and need their chihuahua coats at times, but this is not usually one of those times!

As it turns out, her little “Paco” is cold almost all the time and needs some sort of dog clothing on him, almost all the time, just so he can stay warm. Apparently he’s not sick or anything, but he’s just always been like that, in perpetual need of his dog coats for smaller dogs. The poor little bugger; I can’t imagine being out on the sun-drenched beach with my winter parka on, but I guess it’s different for this little chihuahua dog and it’s actually more enjoyable for him this way. Strange, but true.

All around town in Sayulita lately, I’ve actually been seeing a number of chihuahuas out with their small doggie coats on, lately. Their owners are buying them the all weather dog coats for the rainy season we’re in the middle of, down here. And I’m also spotting a lot of new high visibility dog coats on some of the bigger dogs around town, with owners making sure their pooches are bright and easy to see when it really starts pouring rain and it’s coming down like cats and you know what! In this town, the sidewalks weren’t exactly built with walking pedestrians in mind and you basically have to walk along the side of the road (very typical in Mexico) if you want to go anywhere on foot or take your dog for a spin and give him his exercise.

I’ve also been looking at some of the fleece dog coats and the small dog vests I’ve seen over at GW Little lately, because they are pretty nice and I’ve been wanting to bring a few models of them over to the Chihuahua Clothes Store, here. The Coats For Small Dogs at Pet Fashion Week in New York City

Last year during Pet Fashion Week in New York City, I had the chance to sit in on the dog fashion runway shows, and I was able to catch a glimpse of the coats for small dogs that were coming down the line in this pet fashion industry and that we now carry here at the Chihuahua Clothes Shop. Chihuahua coats and jackets for other smaller dogs have been one of our best sellers at the shop, and I have to say that part of that is due to the hard work the designers put into their dog clothing work.

On the runways of Pet Fashion Week, I saw the whole gamut of doggy coats for little dogs: there were dog coats for winter and designer dog coats from luxury brands like Gucci, Chanel, and Louis Vuitton. There were cool dog coats for small dogs like chihuahuas and yorkies and Maltese puppies. There were puppy coats of every style and fashion and cut and size you could imagine, being sold at the doggie fashion vendor stands outside the runway rooms. Small dog coats were very well represented at the show!

As you’d expect, it was the coats for toy breeds that claimed most of the attention, as it’s not so much specataters’ fascination with the doggie clothes as much as the little dogs themselves that won them the lion’s share of people’s conversations. The coats for chihuahuas and the other chihuahua clothes were a very hot topic among the small dog owners, with people snapping photos and shooting video to capture the future of dog coat fashion coming down the pipe in the pet industry.

The event was a blast to attend. Not only did I get to be a part of something that raises a lot of awareness for dogs and their rights here in western culture, which is very, very cool; but I got to see all the new accessories for small dogs on their way to the online dog boutiques and specialty pet stores this year. If you ever have the chance to go, I highly recommend it!

Doggie coats are definitely one of the more practical articles of chihuahua clothes or clothing for whatever breed of dog you have, that you can buy for your pet. We stock a number of very high quality chihuahua coats at the store here, along with other trendy dog clothes, and the main idea behind them is to keep your doggie comfortable and warm while also looking his best!

You can find a multitude of cool dog jackets online today, along with heaps of other stylish dog clothes at the various boutiques. If you shop around, you’ll even find guides on how to measure your dog when you’re shopping online, and you can browse the various fashion doggy wrap-overs and chihuahua clothes knowing that whichever one you buy will at least arrive in the correct size for your little dog!

At the Chihuahua Shop, we carry dog raincoats in just about every size for many different breeds of doggies (yes, even though we brand the store as a “chihuahua” shop!), along with other types of coats for small dogs. I’ve seen some gorgeous pink polka dog raincoats and reflective rain jackets for doggies this season, and it’s good thing because, depending where you live, it looks like some of use are going to need it over the next month or two with all the storms blowing through! I even bought an adorable little chihuahua rain poncho for Namaste Arigato, my model chihuahua for the shop, here!

If you look around, you can find a warm wind proof dog coat or a quilted jacket for small doggies, even a dog fleece or a chihuahua plaid flannel coat for your dog, if you’re looking for clothing that’s going to bit a bit warmer for your pup, if you live in a cooler climate.

Of course in the summer, a lot of dog owners are looking for something a bit lighter, like the chihuahua trimmed coat or an animal print jacket for dogs (oddly enough!) There are even glamour girl faux fur coats for chihuahuas that can help these little critters stay warm at night when they’ve been inactive for a while and their fast metabolism lowers their body temperature a bit too much when they’re living indoors with us and they can’t really go anywhere to roam around and get some exercise.

Small Dog Coats For Chihuahuas And The Other Smaller Breeds

I used to think small dog coats were a joke. I would scoff at the notion of a dog (which already has a coat of hair, does he not?) wearing human-invented fashion. Then, in an unusual twist of fate, and ended up taking care of two chihuahuas that I eventually came to call my own. I scoff no more. In fact, it was a matter of mere weeks after first getting them that I ordered my first small dog clothes from a chihuahua clothes boutique!

So what the heck changed my mind so quickly? It was the two chihuahuas: they would start to shiver and seek out the warmest spot in the room whenever they’d been in a room for a while and hadn’t just been prancing around down the sidewalks on a walk with me! As much as I thought that clothes for small dogs were an absolute joke, I couldn’t deny that my two little dogs were not exactly comfortable after they’d been indoors for a while and were just lounging around (which is the official chihuahua sport, by the way!) So I conceded: I bought a pair of chihuahua coats from the little dog coat boutique. And I haven’t looked back since!

When talking with other chihuahua owners today, we chat about the entire gamut of dog clothes, from the doggy parkas and chihuahua ski jackets you see at the Chihuahua Shop, to the other winter dog coats for small dogs the warm dog coats and sweaters you find on the shelves at the local Petco and other brick and mortar pet stores in town. It’s a little freaky when you get talking with your neighbor about her prize-winning chihuahua and how they own matching sets of clothing–both her and her dog!–and how they never leave the house without first coordinating their outfits. For me, I haven’t quite reach that point with my small dogs yet, but I know there are some aspiring Paris Hilton-types out there who could probably put me and my little chiwawa to shame when it comes to dressing to kill for the chihuahua fashion spotlight!

This summer, it’s been a blast to see all the new summer dog coats coming into the store, here. I’ve been getting a lot of questions about waterproof dog coats for blue chihuahua raincoat chihuahuas, as apparently there are a lot of owners who love to walk and dance and play in the rain with their small dogs, who obviously want to keep their little pets warm and snuggly while doing so! So just for those of you looking for such a small dog coat, we’ve brought in the chihuahua raincoat in a variety of colors, so you can get your four-pawed puddle splashing party going on, and semi-convince everyone else on the street that you’ve lost it, haha!–don’t worry, it’s one of my favorite things to do!

Apart from the heavier and rain-repellent small dog coats, there are the more funky and fashionable coats for smaller dogs that you’ll find in most chihuahua clothing stores, as well. If you’re going for the whole K-9 fahionista poochy-Gaga look for your dog, you’ll need your pink dog coats and your crazy wasp-coat for your little dog, and those other cray dog fashion coats that grab your attention like a fashionable attention magnet. These dogtacular clothes are all over the place online, and I do my best to stock the creme de la creme of them in the Chihuahua Clothes Shop.

The one other option you have if you want small dogs coats for your chihuahuas is to make your own. Now, I’m all for do-it-yourself projects when it comes to your chihuahuas, but I’m really not the sewing type, and so I’ll leave it to the budding chihuahua fashion artists at YouTube to guide you, if this option strikes an inner fashion cord with you. Dog Coats for Small Dogs: Through The Eyes of A Chihuahua

Oh hi there!–it’s Namaste the chihuahua again! Mikey has gone out to buy groceries and it’s my chance do another guest sneak-post here on the chihuahua clothes shop’s blog! I managed to dig through some of the new dog clothing inventory at the store and I managed to drag out some super cool dog coats for small dogs, and I’m going to try and write what I think about them here (if my paws let me…)

I have to say that perhaps my favorite outfit is my snugly warm dog coat my owner got me last year! As a little dog, I get cold down here on the ground, and when I’m not on my walk, and I spend a little time lounging around inside on a hot day in the cooled room, I start to shiver and freeze down here! It gets really cold when you’re all the way down here AND you’re a breed that has a super high metabolism and you shed your body heat quickly.

So any small dog coats that keep me a little warmer, I love! I’m super in love with my dog fleeces and, at night, really like to wear them over top my dog pyjamas. It keeps me nice and comfortable!

Another one of my favorite chihuahua outfits is my high visibility dog coat, for when I’m out walking around at night. I’m not really sure what it’s like up there when you’re walking along the side of the street as a human, but when you’re all of ten inches tall and a loud car goes by a little too close, it’s freaking scary. So I’m definitely a fan of the little dog suits and fleece coats for small dogs that have those fluorescent strips on them so your cars can see me and not run me over! Oh, it freaks me out every time someone zooms by in a loud, noisy automobile! I don’t like it! 🙁

Those are some of my favorites in the little dog coats arena, but I’ve seen so many more styles in the new Chihuahua Store here. There’s these fashion dog coats that have fur lining (fake fur, of course!), these crazy cool quilted parkas with hoods, chihuahua vests with fur collars, and even these little luxury ski parkas for dogs, for when you really want to treat one of us to a life of comfort and warmth in the cold!

Well I have to go and get all these small dog coats for small dogs back in the store before Mikey comes home and sees me, finds out I can type and write about chihuahua clothing, and then puts me to work here full time in the chihuahua shop!! I can’t have anything taking away from my precious lounging time by the pool or my snuggle time with him by his feet while he works on his laptop.
