If you live in a rather wet part of the planet during the summer or the rainy season where you live, raincoats for dogs are probably not optional if you like to walk your chihuahua dogs and give them that exercise they love. I know that down here in Sayulita, in this rain forest, it pours cats and chihuahuas every day in the summer time, and my little dogs freeze when they get wet. So I have my chihuahuas wear these heavy-duty chihuahua rain coat outfits that we brought to the Chihuahua Shop recently, and they’ve been working very well.
These waterproof vinyl rain jackets keep my chihuahuas dry as a bone, which keeps them comfortable on their walks, which lets them enjoy the walk, which lets me enjoy the walk!
But if I thought I knew anything about raincoats for dogs, I really don’t in comparison to neighbor here in town. He has three of his own chihuahuas and two that he’s fostering right now, and he has more small dog raincoat jackets for his chiwawa pack than you can shake a bloody stick at! Apparently, he’s rather fond of the fashion appeal of chihuahua raincoats, and he just can’t wait for it to rain again so he can get out of his office and out into the wet streets to show off his fashionably dry chihuahuas in their little custom raincoats for dogs.
This neighbor of mine, he’s a Brit, which partially (ok–who am I kidding?–almost FULLY) explains why he’s in love with chihuahua clothes and fashion that keeps him and his doggies dry! And in his collection chihuahua raincoats, I’ve seen everything from the classic yellow rain poncho to the most elaborate, ornate designer small dog raincoat outfits for little dogs that I’ve ever seen!
For some incredibly frustrating reason, he will not tell me where he buys these fashionable raincoats for his chihuahua dogs. I’ve been looking for a good raincoat for dogs from the shelter here, like the chihuahua rescues that come in, so I can photograph them here during rainy season in some hip, funky, cool-looking fashion that makes them stand out and look adorable, so the people up north check out their pictures on Pet Finder, fall in love instantly with this adorable little yellow raincoat doggie, and have to apply to adopt that dog right then and there!
At the local pet stores, they have an ok selection of large dog raincoat costumes, but their selection of raincoats for little dogs like chihuahuas and poodles and shih tzus leaves much to be desired. Apparently, down here, if you have a small dog, you don’t walk him in the rain, which is ridiculous!
