Chihuahua Fashion for Stylish Chihuahuas!

Chihuahua fashion is all over the globe today. Whether you’re walking through downtown Los Angeles on a sunny afternoon or the streets of Tokyo in the crisp winter air, you see chihuahua dogs dressed to the K9s in their funky fashion for chihuahuas wherever you go! It’s a fashion frenzy out there for our beloved little “chiwawa” pooches, and it looks it’s going to stay this way for a long time yet. And who will complain?–with little doggies this cute, the world is made a more fun, more fashionable, more cute, adorable, friendly place!

It’s true that some chi owners opt to keep their small dogs wrapped up in warm dog clothing, designed to keep their little bundles of furry love comfortable and warm. These chihuahua clothes serve a more functional purpose, definitely. But the entire other side of the chihuahua fashion scene is comprised of all the crazy little dog costumes and outfits we get to dress our teacup and long-haired chihuahuas in! There’s the endless stream of chihuahua dresses you find at the local pet stores and in the online boutiques that dress up your female chi and make her into an even cuter chihuahua princess!

And if you pay attention to the celebrity gossip and model runway shows, you’ll even see the odd chihuahua pet fashion show on TV once in a while! These are amazing events where the models walk the runway with a little dog on-leash, sporting the latest pet fashion from the industry leaders who produce the luxury haute couture dog fashion labels, and they’re a spectacle to behold, let me tell you: sometimes the fashion chihuahuas bite the human models (and draw blood!) and other times the models simply don’t know anything about dogs and haven’t a clue about what to do with all the little dogs around them! Hilarity is often abound in these chihuahua fashion shows!

Western culture was the birthplace of chihuahua dog clothes, but they really have spread across the continents and now, whether you’re in the US or Britain, India or Thailand, Australia or Japan, the Netherlands or Brazil, Taiwan or even China–as my Chinese friends point out–you’re going to see chihuahuas wearing stylish dog clothing these days. It seems the world has caught a mild case of chihuahua fashion fever and you can’t escape it any more!

Puppy Coats for Young Dogs

Puppy coats help keep little dogs warm at night and when living in cooler places. As owners, we get these little coats for our little puppies to make them more comfortable and warm, and sometimes to give them a bit of doggie fashion flair. These little coats for dogs counteract the tendency that chihuahuas and other little dogs have to cool off quickly when not being active and moving around.

If you’ve ever had a smaller dog like a chihuahua, then you know how much little dogs shiver and shake when they’re not running around. Especially at night, you’ll notice how much chihuahuas and other little dogs love to burrow under the covers to try to keep warm with you:

They’re little mini coats for puppies, typically made out of similar materials an in a comparable fashion to people coats, and you dress your little dog in them and they help your pooch out by keeping him a lot more warm and comfy.

There are actually some very cool, fashionable styles of these dog coats out there, if you look around in your local pet store or online through a dog coat store. After Paris Hilton set the chihuahua clothes fashion world on fire with her Tinkerbell, a lot of different styles dog clothing came flooding into the market, and a huge selection of puppy coats are now available.

Now, not every puppy coat is made the same: some are definitely more cool and funky and fashionable than others, and some are made to higher quality standards than others. God knows how many different little coats for puppies I’ve tried out that have basically fallen apart with just a couple of weeks of wear. But the upside is that this has allowed me the opportunity to test out quite a few different brands of puppy coats and find some really adorable ones that remain a staple in my chihuahuas’ clothes selection to this day.

Of all the places I’ve bought little coats for puppies, I’ve find the Chihuahua Shop to be the best. They seem to only carry the higher quality brands that won’t fall apart after just a couple weeks of wear.

Chihuahua puppy coats do a great job of keeping little dogs comfortable and warm, and if you like the look of a brand of puppy jacket from another store, my advice is to try and see if you find a place that sells them with a warranty of some kind, but whatever coats you choose for your little young dogs, you’re going to be keeping him stylish and warm, and that’s always a good thing! Chihuahua Booties

Chihuahua booties keep your chihuahua’s paws clean when walking and protect the pads from wearing out when walking a lot on rough surfaces like concrete. There are many styles of these boots, but I would only recommend a few of the ones I have tried out on my chihuahuas: in my experience, the “Pawz” brand booties are one of the few brands that actually stay on your dog’s feet properly for an extended period of time and can actually be used for walking and more than just lying around in the house! Here’s what they look like:


These chihuahua boots are straightforward: they don’t have any zippers or straps that can become undone. Instead, you just slip these on your chihuahua’s feet and you’re ready to roll. If you’ve ever tried out booties for dogs before that have the zippers and straps, you’ll know that they usually become undone and it’s only a matter of time before they fall off your little dog’s feet, and it’s not fun when you have keep checking your chihuahua to make sure her little booties are still on her paws! So I highly recommend the chihuahua booties that just slip on and hold by being a tight fit: they work best in my experience, with all of the dog boots shoes I’ve ever used on my own chihuahuas.

Owners of little dogs mostly buy shoes and chihuahua booties for their smaller dogs to give them enhanced comfort when walking: the doggy boots keep their chihuahua’s pads insulated from the scorching heat of hot sidewalks when walking in the summer and the freezing cold of the snow and ice in the winter. So booties for chihuahuas help keep your chihuahua more comfortable when walking on harsh surfaces like this, and they also keep your chihuahua’s little feet safe from things like lawn fertilizers and other chemicals your little dog might encounter on an adventurous walk, like car oil on the road, etc. The other side of dog booties is that they also make your chihuahua look absolutely adorable when you combine them with chihuahua clothes and make them a part of an overall chihuahua look you dress you small dog up in.

So where do you find them? If you’ve got a chihuahua and you’re looking for good dog shoes boots, you can go down to your local pet store and try them on there. Depending where you live, you may find a good selection at the local chihuahua clothing/pet stores. You can also find a wide variety of chihuahua booties online, but if you’re looking for the good Pawz-brand ones like I recommend, then GW Little is the place to find them. A pair of chihuahua booties keeps your chihuahua’s feet more comfortable better protected from the elements and clean and free of the dirt and grime of the city ground. Your cute little chihuahua won’t get any more cuts on her paws when you go for long walk in the city, and the booties will keep your chihuahua’s paws protected from branches and other little sharp thorns and debris on the ground if you take your chihuahua on more of a nature walk. And of course, if you’re into the whole chihuahua fashion scene, you can’t have a model walking down the runway/sidewalk without her shoes!–it’s just essential gear! Small Dog Clothing: Cute and Adorable Clothes For Your Little Dog

Small dog clothing is available in greater variety than clothes for bigger dogs, and this is one of the advantages of owning a chihuahua dog or other similarly small breed.  At the pet store, you’ll notice there are more costumes for dogs that are little than the bigger breed dogs.  The bigger breeds primarily have their coats for keeping them warm in cool weather, but smaller dogs have clothing that comes much more in both types: functional dog clothing to keep them warm, as well as the adorable dog costumes you use to dress them up into cute, adorable bundles of K9 fluff and chihuahua clothes hilarity.

An example:  If you have a golden retriever, you’re probably not going to find too many polka dot costumes with rabbit ears for him at your local pet store.  What you will find are winter and rain coats for him in all likelihood, along with some dog boots to help protect your retriever’s pads in certain circumstances, and maybe–just maybe–you’ll see the odd Superman costume that you can hang around his neck to make him look like a ridiculously cute and hilarious K9 superhero.

But if you’ve got a smaller dog like chihuahua, you will find that same style in small dog clothing for him at the store, with a bunch of companies making warm chihuahua dog clothes and little rain coats and other apparel for small dogs in the same style as that bigger dog clothing.  But you’ll also likely find the other side of smaller dog clothing: the dog costumes for small dogs!  You’ll be able to find that rabbit costume, that farmer outfit, and that freaky pumpkin costume that you don’t quite know whether you should be laughing at it or perhaps checking yourself into a mental hospital for buying it and dressing your little dog up in it–haha!–when you go shopping for clothes for smaller dogs!  Of course not all of the customers are that extreme, and in fact you’ll often see combination clothing that are both dog coat and costume, mixing function in with the small dog fashion:

Clothing for small dogs comes in more variety in other words, and it makes owning a small breed dog a lot of fun.  It’s so much fun to dress up your little puppy in a costume outfit and walk him around the neighborhood and meet all the other dogs along the way!  And of course if you bump into a friend along the way, or if you’re back at home and your little chihuahua is there in his toy dog clothing, it’s an endless talking piece if you want to go there.

One of the best parts of there being both of these types of clothes for small dogs is that you can make your little dog wear both at the same time, so you can cover both bases at once: keeping him warm as well as making him look adorable and cute!  I actually see this a lot among chihuahua owners: they’ll put a shirt and a sweater on their dog and then over top of that have the chihuahua wearing a chiuaua clothes costume of some sort, be it a cute toy costume or a pair of fairy wings or some sort of three headed beast or some other funky kind of costume–I see it a lot, actually!  Most owners start by addressing their small dog’s need for comfort by buying the pooch sweaters and the dog coats and those shirts for keeping your dog warm; and then afterward they explore the very cool, very fun and very adorable world of small dog costumes for their chihuahua or their yorkie, or whatever little breed of dog they have!  It can be a very, very enjoyable little hobby!  Be sure to check back soon for the latest news on small dog clothing and other attire and funky, cute fashion for chihuahuas!

Cheap Dog Clothes: Avoid An Itching Dog By Trying Before Buying

I love cheap dog clothes, especially when I find them for my little chihuahua. They’re cute, they’re snuggly, they’re cheap, and they tend to make everyone in sight love your little bundle of chihuahua joy, instantly!

But something I’ve learned you have to look out for when purchasing cheaper clothes for dogs is the itch factor. Sometimes you can go to buy a cheap shirt for your dog, perhaps a knit sweater of some kind that’s made of wool, and you’ll put it on your little dog and it will make her itch her like crazy. You’ll put it on your poor chihuahua and her back foot will arch up and start scratching behind the ears and along the side, and the head will be twisting and contorting so she can reach that spot! Darn it!–I…must.. just…reach…. that spot! 🙂

My joking asside, it can be a good idea to test out dog clothes for this first, before you buy them. The easiest way to do this of course to is to simply take your chihuahua with you to the pet store (or whatever breed you have) and try them before buying them. Most pet stores allow you to bring your dog in with you these days, so you can take advantage of that and bring your little chihuahua dog in with you, bring her to the isle of dog clothes, and then test out those you’re interested in. Pick the sweater or coat that you think you’d like to buy, and then test it out on her: put the clothes on her and let her wear it for a few minutes while you browse the rest of the small dog clothing, and see pay attention and observe your chihuahua to see if she’s itching at all as a result of the clothes.

Most of the time, itching never comes up and this isn’t a problem, in my experience. But I’ve just recently had an experience with my chihuahua where I bought her a cute new pink little dog parka. I put it on her and everyone was absolutely swooning over how cute it was, but then I noticed something I’ve never seen her do before in response to wearing her clothes: she started itching! It it wasn’t just like a little scratch either: I’m talking a full blown itch-o-mania! It was kind of crazy.

At the time, I was thinking my little chihuahua was having some kind of allergic reaction to the material this parka was made of, but it was weird because the parka didn’t appear to be made of anything special or different from the cheap clothes my chihuahua or any of my little dogs have worn in the past.

It was a truly bizarre moment!

So I took the clothes back to the store and returned them. And with my little dog with me, we went and tested out a few more affordable coats for little dogs. Lo and behold, after a few minutes of testing different ones, we came across yet another article of clothing that was itching her like crazy! It bore no resemblance to the pink parka I’d returned, but it was causing the same itch reaction with my poor chihuahua. Weird.

The only thing I can think of is that somewhere along the way, one of the employees accidentally dropped a few of these coats onto something like fiberglass insulation or something similarly irritating to the skin, and then those pieces of dog clothing somehow they made their way onto the store shelves. Now, I’m swinging at air here, but that’s about the only explanation that comes to mind for me. The two coats we tried out on my chihuahua dog were completely different in every sense: different material, different design, and from a different company.

Luckily, we found a few good inexpensive dog shirts for her to wear this spring, so we’re both very happy about that: her with the added cuteness she’ll be sporting, and me here with the camera ready!  Oh god, something tells me I’m turning into one of those crazy dog persons. Anyway, keep this in weird thing in mind: if your chihuahua starts itching the bejesus out of herself after you put that new chihuahua clothing on her, you may be experiencing something similar to what we went through here with these itchy cheap dog clothes, and you may consider returning them to the store like we did to try out some different shirts and sweaters instead.
