Small Dog Harness for A Chihuahua

I don’t know if you’re seeing the same thing, but I’m noticing a lot of chihuahuas and other little dogs wearing a small dog harness on their walks these days, instead of the older style chihuahua dog collars I used to see everywhere. I’m lucky in that I live around a lot of dogs and their owners, and so I see a great deal of chihuahua clothes and chihuahua harness dresses, and the whole spectrum of dog walking tools.

With the smaller dogs right now, I’m definitely seeing a movement toward using the stylish chihuahua harnesses, with little dog owners. The little dog harness allows you to not only take you dog for a walk, but to do so while having your chihuahua dressed up in one of the fashion dog harnesses that keep your little pup looking cool and stylish while also giving you easy access to a harness loop to leash her up because it’s built in to the small dog’s harness dress, coat, shirt, or hoodie. So these harnesses are fashionable and functional.

Jogging along the walking trails here in town, some of the small dog harnesses I’ve seen are darn cute. They have these toy dog harness vests that dress up your little dog as though he’s on his way to a board meeting or something more serious like that. And on other little dogs, I’ve seen these chihuahua harnesses, also in vest form, that make your little dog look like he’s on his way to a psychedelic disco party, with these splotchy color blotches in an almost tie-dye pattern.

And still, many other continue to walk their little dogs in their chihuahua clothes with their chihuahua collars and leashes. Not everyone is big on small dog harnesses, after all. Some believe that it’s much easier to control your dog when you’re leading your dog around with a leash attached to the neck, for training purposes. And others like knowing that by using a little doggie harness, they’re not putting any strain on their chihuahua’s neck. If you’re the latter and you have a little dog and you prefer using a harness to walk your pup, then head over to the Chihuahua Shop and check out the small dog harness selection, and have a look for yourself. I’ve been busy, working to bring in some new models of these little dog harnesses that I think you’ll really like, so be sure you go head over to the Shop and check them out after reading this! Trendy Dog Collars For Your Fashionable Doggy

I’ve been looking at these trendy dog collars at the Chihuahua Clothes Shop lately, and I have to admit: I’m impressed. Normally, I’m not really big on flashy, frilly-laced jewelry for my dog. In fact, up until just a few years ago, I thought the whole notion of chihuahua clothing was a complete joke. I thought it was ridiculous, dressing dogs in little outfits made by us. Well I got two small dogs of my own–two chihuahuas–and that all changed in a hurry! It wasn’t even two weeks before my little doggies were running around in their K-9 haute couture chihuahua fashion outfits and their other adorable dog clothes for chihuahuas. A few weeks later, I had to splurge on personalized dog collars for them and complete the look for them, for all-out chihuahua effect. It was a little overboard for me, but the chihuahuas certainly looked the part!

Fashionable dog collars have always been a favorite dog accessory of mine. They way I see it, your dog’s collar is her most important piece of fashion. She wears it all the time, it holds her license and ID tags, and it’s like her jewelry. I’ve notice my little dogs get quite attached to their chihuahua collars: when I remove them, they lean forward and sniff it and look up at me and then at the collar, expectantly, just wanting and waiting for me to put it back on around their neck.

So I’ve been working on finding the best rhinestone collars in the online dog boutiques lately. I’ve seen some great lather strap dog collars that do the customizable crystal print letters like we do here at the Chihuahua Shop, but for the most part, I like what we have a lot more than the other styles I’m seeing out in most other stores.

I’ve always been a fan of those polka dot collars you can find at the local pet stores, that you can find in the section with all the nylon dog collars. I usually go with nylon for my foster dogs, simply because it’s a bit cheaper (and when you foster as many rescues as I do, that becomes an issue, let me tell you!) But when you got to step it up a little and you want to move into more of the designer dog collars for your chihuahua, then you’re almost always going to be dealing with trendy dog collars that have leather straps.

The leather dog collars tend to last longer than the nylon ones, and this isn’t probably going to be your biggest concern when you’re a chihuahua owner because even when they roughhouse, they’re not exactly bringing down the house with the amount of damage they can do to the house or to their chihuahua clothing, but if you’ve got a pug or a dachshund or a bit bigger dog than a chihuahua, you’ll appreciate the leather straps on their collars.

In addition to the collars, you can find designer dog leads and chihuahua harnesses that match in style and are usually sold together, which is perfect if you’re the fashion-tastic type who loves having things coordinated with your chihuahua accessories and dog apparel!

But to wrap this up, I have to say that right now, I’m most excited about the new Wizard of Oz Swarovski dog collars (pictured at the top of this article) that the Chihuahua Clothes Store just brought in! Even the whole story of how these trendy dog collars came to be is interesting, and I recommend you go check them out and see them for yourself and learn about them, here; they’re pretty freaking cool. So check those dog collars out, check out the Chihuahua Shop, and I’ll be back again very soon. -Mikey

Chihuahua Harnesses for Walking Your Small Dog

I want to talk a bit about chihuahua harnesses now because they’re freaking cool and we just got a few new styles of them in at the chihuahua shop! I wanted to start this by pointing out the obvious: that there are about as many ways of walking your dog as there are dogs, but in terms of the tools, typically you’ll see the main three: some people walk their dog with the leash, some walk their dogs off-leash, and other people walk their little dog using a harness. Dog owners using the harness typically do so because they don’t like the thought of hurting their dog’s neck when they’re on the walk. We don’t like the image of our small dog straining her neck with a collar and a leash attached to her tiny neck, and we don’t want to hurt our little precious chihuahua’s neck. So for those of us so inclined, the chihuahua shop has got these new and super adorable harnesses for little dogs, ranging from the customizable chihuahua harness T-shirts (pictured just up on the left, here), to Chole’s Bevery Hills Chihuahua dress set that comes with an integrated harness right in the dress (pictured right below, on the right), to the stylish new chihuahua vest-harnesses (pictured at the bottom of this post!)

So there are a lot of different styles of these harnesses. You can buy the standalone ones that you hook up and clip onto your dog before the walk that you’ll commonly see on bigger dogs, or you can find the chihuahua clothing-integrated harnesses that have the harness built right into the chihuahua clothes like Chloe’s dress here on the right side, so you don’t have to go and find the harness every time you want to walk your dog: it’s always right there in the clothing, which is very handy!

Now traditionally, a harness is used on a dog for tracking purposes. Trainers won’t usually use a harness just for walking a dog because the harness very often creates a pulling reaction in the dog, for when you want the dog to lead and pull you, so it’s used a lot in search and rescue contexts. But people who own smaller dogs may have a claim when some of them say something along the lines of “hey, I like to a harness on my little dog, first of all because she is so small and if something happens on the walk, like she gets freaked out and yanks the other way on the leash, or I turn and we get tangled up or something, and there’s a jerk on the leash, I don’t want to hurt my little dog’s neck; I don’t want to ring her neck with the leash and hurt her! So just to be safe, I like to use the harness when walking her because it makes me feel better, like I’m not in danger of hurting her, and that lets me enjoy the walk more.”

And I can totally relate. As little dog owners, we like to pamper our pets often and take as good care of them as we can, and so I do understand the concern here. So for those of us who like using the harness when walking our little dog (our little dogs, should we be so lucky!), we carry a few different types of these quality harnesses, like the customizable T-shirt harness, the chihuahua dress harness, and even the new fashionable chihuahua harness vests (pictured left.) You can visit the chihuahua store to check them out by clicking the banner below, and I hope to see you in there! They’re very stylish and cool, many even come with a matching leash, and so head on over there, check them out, and I’ll speak to you again very, very soon!
