Note from Mikey: hey there. I’ve been wanting to write a piece about yorkie outfits for the site here, but being a chihuahua owner, I feel a little out of place about it. So I’ve managed to get my friend here who has a few yorkies of her own, who’s actually really excited to be published on the site here, to write a guest article here about her experience with yorkie clothes for you. Enjoy!
Hey there, it’s Jada! I’m the proud owner of three yorkies, and I have to confess: I love yorkie outfits. First of all because they take your yorkie’s natural cuteness–and who could argue with that! They’ve got the cute little toy breed stature and that cute long hair that’s just like this little aristocratic dog that’s hilarious and adorable! But when you dress them in yorkie clothes, it just cranks it up by 10x, it’s just unbelievable how cute they are. And if you ever have one of those in your house, your life is going to be a lot happier because you’ll always be reminded of the bright side of life and to not take things too seriously because your little bundle of love will brighten your day, guaranteed!
Yorkie outfits are great because they help you keep your little toy breed dog warmer and more comfortable at night, or whenever you’re in a cold room, and also help them look super cool and fashionable, as you can dress your little yorkie up with a myriad of fashionable outfits and make him look like any kind of character you’d like him to look like. It’s great! You can play different story lines and plot lines between your little doggies, if you dress them up as the bride and the groom, or the harlequin and the damsel in distress, the pirate, etc. There’s all sorts of crazy costumes out there for yorkies!
Dressing pets in little dog clothes like these is construed by some owners as a mild form of animal cruelty. They say “why would you dress up a dog in clothes? Isn’t that cruel?–I mean they don’t wear clothes in nature: they have their fur!” And I concede: it is unnatural.
In fact, I’ll tell you what: a little while ago, I thought the same thing. I thought “well, I don’t know… I don’t think my dogs need clothes; they look pretty cute as they are!” But I gave in one day and said “alright” when I was surfing around on the internet, looking at different yorkie outfits that were floating around on my mind, and I decided to buy one. Well it showed up in the mail two weeks later, I tried it out on my dog, and I fell in love instantly with the whole idea of it.
Well me neighbor came over about five minutes after I put the shirt on my yorkie, and she just would not shut up and stop gushing about how CUTE my yorkie was. I actually had to get out the door to go to a meeting, but I couldn’t get her out the door! She just kept talking and gushing and wanted to pet my dog, and I was put in this weird situation where I had to get out and tell her “Ok, look: you HAVE to go; I have a meeting to get to,” but she was petting my dog and I didn’t want to be the Grinch and be all “no, you can’t pet my dog any more and you have to leave, now.” It was kind of a funny situation. It’s AMAZING how much of a magnet these dogs are for attention and adoration! So for their sake, to help with their socialization, as I know Mikey has written about on this blog with his chihuahuas, I really recommend giving your yorkies a couple of outfits to sport. It’s a lot of fun, and they actually help with their socialization. So I’m a big proponent of the yorkie outfit to say the least.
So to those who argue that dog clothing is wrong because it’s not natural, I would say “well, sure, but in nature, we also don’t bring dogs into our home, feed them dog food, take them to the groomer…” and we could go on and on–there are ten thousand other things we could talk about here. I don’t really think that putting clothing on your dog is a big issue. As far as I’m concerned, you’re just enhancing his natural warmth. And as for the aesthetic component–the beauty and how it makes your dog look–I really don’t think my dog gives a crap about that. I doubt he even knows what he looks like, much less has vanity issues to deal with.
All joking aside, yorkie clothing is just about the cutest thing you will even encounter in your life. If you’re a yorkie owner and you don’t have yorkie clothes for him, I might have to wonder what the heck you’re waiting for–seriously. Head on over to the Chihuahua Store that Mikey has set up for us small dog owners, and check out the yorkie outfits. It has a great selection of clothes for yorkies that I think you’ll really like, and check it out! Hopefully I can write for Mikey’s Chihuahua site here again soon! xox -Jada
