Toy Dog Clothes: Using Them To Meet Hot Guys?

Well I have a special treat for you today: For the rest of this week, I thought I’d ask my good friend Elle to make a few guest posts about her experience with toy dog clothes and her chihuahuas and her tiny pug dogs. Elle lives in New York City, and we met quite a while ago. I first saw her at a coffee shop, and she was there, sipping on her espresso, with her four little doggies all sporting some of the most cute, adorable little toy dog clothing I’ve ever seen. I was there with a chihuahua I was fostering at the time, and Elle and I hit it off immediately. Over the years I’ve known Elle–this last one in particular–she has really opened my eyes and expanded my mind on just what is possible when it comes to using toy dog outfits to enhance not only your dog’s life, but your own via the interesting situations you land in when you have your small dogs dressed up in crazy-cool, outlandish outfits for dogs.

I think a lot of chihuahua owners imagine some aspect of this kind of dog fashion lifestyle for themselves when they pick out the clothes for their little dog and they wander off into fantasy land and think about this stuff, but Elle really lives this lifestyle, and so I think you’ll get a kick of the unique perspective she brings to the table in the realm of dressing up your toy doggies and the experiences that can flow from it!

Today, she’s going to be talking about toy dog clothes and an interesting aspect about how they can make your life a bit more flirtatious, apparently! So enough of me; here she is:

Toy dog clothes and hot guys: the ultimate ice breaker

I just want to start by thanking Mikey for asking me to do this! It’s an honour to post on his blog here that I know he works very hard at, and this is my first guest post on a website, so this is doubly special for me!

Alright, so straight to it: I think that toy dog dresses and shirts and costumes are one of the very best social ice breakers I have ever stumbled across.

As what I consider to be an attractive woman, I get hit on quite a bit. Every day, in some way, men are checking me out and trying to engage me in some way. Sometimes it’s annoying, and sometimes it’s a really hot guy who’s checking me out and it’s a little exciting. What I’ve found is that a lot of these hotter guys actually have a harder time approaching me than some of the other boys, and that can be so frustrating!

But, I’ve noticed this almost always ceases to be the case when I’ve got my dogs out with me and we’re walking along an THEY are all dressed up in their toy dog clothes. When I’m out with my little angels and they’re sporting their stylish outfits, the hotter guys seem to have a much easier time coming over to me and striking up a conversation.

I don’t know what you will think of that. I know that some people I’ve discussed this with think it’s totally manipulative of your dogs and that’s it’s wrong to “use” them like this. And others are totally floored when I get talking about it with them. Personally, I figure I need to walk my dogs anyways and put in that time to lead them and give them the physical and mental stimulation they need every day, so why not just bring them with me wherever I go in life whenever possible and have my little ice-breaking entourage with me at all times??

It has certainly worked well for me. I find that it still works alright without your pooches wearing their toy dog fashion, but it seems to work a lot better when they are. There’s something about having little dogs dressed up in these cute little outfits that makes for such easy conversation food that it’s beautiful. It gives people something easy to talk about with you… I love it! I’ve had so much more social success while I’m out and about running errands when I have my little dressed up pups with me!

So I HOPE you’ll try this out yourself and see what happens, at the very least! I think it’s important to keep in mind that while I know that bringing my dressed up toy dogs with me increases my chances of having guys I’m interested coming up to me, that’s definitely not the ONLY reason I do it. I genuinely know that my little guys need their exercise and so bringing them with me is just a great way of giving that to them when I’m already going places anyway. But adding the clothes on their little cute, furry backs definitely does increase the likelihood of the more attractive men coming over and talking to me, who would often not do so… 😉

I think Mikey wants me to write him another piece for tomorrow, so I think we’ll be speaking again soon! Leave me some comments if you like what I wrote or you hate it or you have your own take on it! -Elle

Mikey: Thanks so much Elle. I super appreciate it! And… if you are reading this now and you’re interesting in finding out more about the latest toy dog clothes and shopping at what I strongly believe to be THE best store that carries them, look no further than the Chihuahua Shop. You can check it out at that link right below, so hop on over there, check the toy dog clothing out, and we’ll be back again tomorrow with another guest post from Elle! 🙂

Toy Dog Clothing for Chihuahuas

Ever since I first adopted my chihuahuas a few years back, I’ve had a soft spot for toy dog clothing and the chihuahua clothes I love to dress up my little doggies with. For me, small dog clothing is my favorite way of really externalizing my chihuahua’s personality for others to see and “get” immediately, and to just have my own fun with dressing her up and living in a bit of a chihuahua fantasy land! But recently, I ran into a situation at puppy training class with a new chihuahua rescue I’m fostering right now where toy dog clothes were actually getting in the way!

So this chihuahua rescue I took in a few weeks ago, he has a lot of potential to be a chihuahua superstar: he’s very attentive, he’s super obedient, and he loves wearing his toy dog outfits. So I enlisted him in puppy training classes and have been taking him three times per week to his classes with him dressed up in his chihuahua clothing.

The problem is not with my chihuahua pup or any of the other dogs: they’re all super friendly and they get along famously. This bizarre problem has to do with the other dog owners and my little chihuahua doggie’s toy dog fashion that I dress him in: his toy dog clothing is drawing too much attention from the other owners in the class and they’re actually getting distracted from the exercises we’re supposed to be doing and it’s interfering with the entire class. It’s insanity!

I go to these dog training classes with my chihuahua dressed up in his toy doggie clothing, and I almost feel like I’m trapped in a zombie movie or something with all of these people coming after me and my dog who simply can’t control themselves and keep from coming after us to touch him and talk to me! It’s insanity! Combining this little chihuahua with his tiny chihuahua dog clothes is proving to be too much for these other owners to handle! They see my little Winston in his cool toy dog apparel and it’s like gravity pulling them away from their training exercises with their own dog: they have to come over and talk to me and comment on how cute my chihuahua is in his toy dog clothing and how he reminds them of this other dog they once had, and this and that… it’s madness, I say.

I like to use chihuahua dog clothing to help dogs and people, not interfere with them, so for the last two classes, I’ve actually left my little chihuahua pup’s toy dog costumes and small dog coats off, in the car, just so that he isn’t quite as much of a draw. It’s been helping, as the other owners are doing a better job of concentrating on their work, but now my little Winston isn’t getting his training while wearing his small dog coats and his little dog clothing, which isn’t ideal because I want that association to be there. Perhaps I’ll have to dress him back up in his toy dog clothing after a few more sessions and see if the other owners can behave themselves.

I’m almost hesitant to do this because I know that whenever you dress up a chihuahua in clothing for toy dogs, it’s like giving the world an invitation to come over and touch your dog and squeal with delight and remark over how cute your doggie is! And then I have to almost get into that “alright bitch, back the f!*# away from my dog!”-mode just to stop all the commotion and continue with what I was wanting to do. I don’t like having to go there, but sometimes duty calls, you know?

Haha! Well anyways, the Chihuahua Shop has some super high quality toy dog clothing that I think you should check out if you’re into your chihuahua toy dog’s clothes and you enjoy dressing her up into that toy dog fashionista diva superstar. So head over to the Shop, check it out, and I’ll back again soon, probably with another weird story about toy dog clothing that hopefully does not involve me punching someones lights out for not giving me and my chihuahua the space we need to do our training work, after I snap, black out, and lose it. Lol. Speak soon, -Mikey

Toy Dog Clothing Fashion Show To Raise Money For Homeless Shelter Dogs

I’m super excited because I have a friend who’s preparing for her very own toy dog clothing fashion show in Los Cabos, Mexico! She’s putting this show on to help raise money for the local Humane Society there, and so she’s getting ready, collecting all the coats for small dogs that she can from friends and coworkers, so she can dress up the smaller dessert mutts at the Los Cabos Humane Society in little toy dog clothes and help raise money for the cause. And, with a bit of luck, a few of the dogs will catch the eye of potential pet owners and get adopted. I’m super excited for these little chihuahuas and other little doggies in Cabo that will be strutting their stuff to save their skins and help raise money to keep their shelter running!

My friend truly has a heart of gold. In a past life, I used to work at the Los Cabos Humane Society and she would come in and volunteer when she had time away from her job. She’d feed the smaller dogs and dress them up in their sweaters for small dogs and their donated chiwawa clothes at night so they’d stay warmer over the cool dessert night and sleep better. And we’d walk the little dogs over the dessert sand dunes behind the shelter and give the pets-in-waiting their exercise each day.

Like I said, this person has a heart of gold, and a few years ago she came up with this great idea for a fundraiser for the shelter dogs: she would put on a little doggy fashion show. See, it’s very expensive proposition–running an animal shelter–and when you house 50-60 dogs plus about 30 cats, you spay and neuter them, you take care of their health and medicate them when needed, you feed them, and you take care of all their vet checks and vaccinations, plus you fly them out to adoptive homes in the US and Canada when they have people interested in adopting them, the expenses add up rather quickly and you really need to have a few good fundraisers every year just so that you can continue to operate and survive to help more dogs like these little critters:

So my friend came up with the idea of dressing up the little dogs at their shelter in the small yorkie apparel and other clothing for toy doggies she had collected over the years, and hosting a fashion show for the dogs and make an event out of the whole thing, to bring people in and collect donations. It was a great idea, and she’s getting ready to do it for the second time, now!

I’ve been sending my spare dog apparel for small dogs down to her and asking my neighbors if they had any clothes for toy dogs they didn’t want any more, so we could send them down for my friend to dress up the cutest small dogs at the shelter with and have her little fashion show fundraiser with the smaller dogs there.

I wanted to share this story with you because it’s not every day you hear about dog outfits for small dogs making a core difference in the lives of so many animals, especially when we’re talking life and death here with the shelter dogs! Usually when I’m thinking about little chihuahua clothes, I’m thinking about how cute and cuddly they make little dogs look and how this pink sweater would match great with those white doggy boots, and all of this other superficial stuff–not that there’s anything wrong with that; I think that’s part of the joy of dog clothes: they let us have fun and not take things so seriously. But for the dogs who aren’t living the life in a nice home with a loving family to call their own, it’s nice to see that toy dog clothing can still serve a positive purpose and help these dogs out, along with the incredible work of some people like my friend with the heart of gold in Cabo!

Outfits for Small Dogs: Escape To A More Interesting World

As long as chihuahuas and yorkies and other little dogs are around, there will be dog owners dressing up their little pups in outfits for small dogs. You can count on it. We get our first little dog and we swoon over how adorable she is, and we’re completely enamored. Soon after, we can’t help but go and pick out some little chiwawa clothes for her, or perhaps a few dog fleeces to keep her warm at night. We love our little doggies and we want them to look as cool and be as comfortable as us, and so we lavish them with the chihuahua fashion and the dog shirts for small dogs from the little boutiques, and we have our fun.

Apparently, Chloe and Papi from Beverly Hills Chihuahua like to shop for their toy dog clothing in the hills:

The woman in the video is mostly right, I believe. As owners, we do often buy our dogs their clothing to keep them warm, but if we’re honest, we also buy these little pomeranian clothes and poodle clothes, or terrier clothes or clothes whatever breed of little dog you have, because we want to lavish them with adorable fashion and let them live the high life that we ourselves like to live. I mean, really: what could be more fun than dressing your little dog in french bulldog clothes? What could be more adorable and fashionable than dressing your chihuahua in cute little costumes and the famous chihuahua clothes from movies like Beverly Hills Chihuahua or Legally Blonde? Not much, methinks. By the way, you can find costumes from both of these movies for your little chihuahuas here, at the Chihuahua Shop:

Small Dog Clothing: Cute and Adorable Clothes For Your Little Dog

Small dog clothing is available in greater variety than clothes for bigger dogs, and this is one of the advantages of owning a chihuahua dog or other similarly small breed.  At the pet store, you’ll notice there are more costumes for dogs that are little than the bigger breed dogs.  The bigger breeds primarily have their coats for keeping them warm in cool weather, but smaller dogs have clothing that comes much more in both types: functional dog clothing to keep them warm, as well as the adorable dog costumes you use to dress them up into cute, adorable bundles of K9 fluff and chihuahua clothes hilarity.

An example:  If you have a golden retriever, you’re probably not going to find too many polka dot costumes with rabbit ears for him at your local pet store.  What you will find are winter and rain coats for him in all likelihood, along with some dog boots to help protect your retriever’s pads in certain circumstances, and maybe–just maybe–you’ll see the odd Superman costume that you can hang around his neck to make him look like a ridiculously cute and hilarious K9 superhero.

But if you’ve got a smaller dog like chihuahua, you will find that same style in small dog clothing for him at the store, with a bunch of companies making warm chihuahua dog clothes and little rain coats and other apparel for small dogs in the same style as that bigger dog clothing.  But you’ll also likely find the other side of smaller dog clothing: the dog costumes for small dogs!  You’ll be able to find that rabbit costume, that farmer outfit, and that freaky pumpkin costume that you don’t quite know whether you should be laughing at it or perhaps checking yourself into a mental hospital for buying it and dressing your little dog up in it–haha!–when you go shopping for clothes for smaller dogs!  Of course not all of the customers are that extreme, and in fact you’ll often see combination clothing that are both dog coat and costume, mixing function in with the small dog fashion:

Clothing for small dogs comes in more variety in other words, and it makes owning a small breed dog a lot of fun.  It’s so much fun to dress up your little puppy in a costume outfit and walk him around the neighborhood and meet all the other dogs along the way!  And of course if you bump into a friend along the way, or if you’re back at home and your little chihuahua is there in his toy dog clothing, it’s an endless talking piece if you want to go there.

One of the best parts of there being both of these types of clothes for small dogs is that you can make your little dog wear both at the same time, so you can cover both bases at once: keeping him warm as well as making him look adorable and cute!  I actually see this a lot among chihuahua owners: they’ll put a shirt and a sweater on their dog and then over top of that have the chihuahua wearing a chiuaua clothes costume of some sort, be it a cute toy costume or a pair of fairy wings or some sort of three headed beast or some other funky kind of costume–I see it a lot, actually!  Most owners start by addressing their small dog’s need for comfort by buying the pooch sweaters and the dog coats and those shirts for keeping your dog warm; and then afterward they explore the very cool, very fun and very adorable world of small dog costumes for their chihuahua or their yorkie, or whatever little breed of dog they have!  It can be a very, very enjoyable little hobby!  Be sure to check back soon for the latest news on small dog clothing and other attire and funky, cute fashion for chihuahuas!
